Workforce Development

The Walnut Hills Job Bank is a workforce development initiative to connect residents of the 45206 zip code to jobs, with a special emphasis on career pathway jobs in the neighborhood. The Job Bank works with employers and potential employees to provide the best match for both.
Prospective workers go through an assessment at Mercy Neighborhood Ministries (Work Keys) to determine their job and work readiness, employment strengths and skill sets as well as career path preferences. After the assessment prospective workers attend a one-on-one career counseling session, where a career path plan is created. We want to match good employers to good people.
This initiative came about for two main reasons. One, a large barrier to employment for many people is transportation. By connecting residents to jobs within their neighborhood, this barrier is largely avoided. Two, Walnut Hills is an up and coming neighborhood, a neighborhood in transition. As the business district becomes redeveloped and new businesses move in and thrive, it is important that current residents are a part of the revitalization.
