Coming soon to a community garden near you....
On May Street, just north of Taft, sits a lot, empty except for 162 feet of scraggly scrub undergrowth. With a huge shout out of thanks to Taking Root and the Scotts Gro1000 community garden grant program, we will be turning this lot into an urban orchard, complete with apple, pear, peach, plum and cherry trees. Under the trees, we will be planting blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, black raspberries and strawberries. We will also be installing four garden beds, and in the spring, we will plant watermelon and cantaloupe.
The residents of Walnut Hills have asked for more locally grown fruit. We are working hard to bring that to fruition.
Stay tuned for volunteer days.
