Neighborhood Construction!

Check out progress pictures from Poste, Paramout Square, Durner, and Scholar House.

All of the foundations are complete at Poste and the Milhaus team is making progress on framing.

Model Group is continuing work on Paramount Square. We are excited at the progress in the old Kresge building, future home of La Soupe!

Work on the Durner building is off to a smashing start! We have begun interior demolition and cleanout. We will restore the storefront system and replace all the front windows. We're working to save the rear windows, as well as all of the marble and doors in the building.

Scholar House is also making progress. We can't wait for Model Group, Cincinnati Union Bethel, and Christ Church Cathedral to open 44 units of affordable housing for single-parents enrolled in a full-time education program! The project also includes an early learning center that parents can use while at school or work.

Thanks to Just Q'in and the Cincinnati Music Accelerator, 25% of all proceeds at Just Q'in on Friday, June 7th will go to the WHRF! Music will feature our very own Aprina Johnson! Come out and eat delicious barbecue while supporting the WHRF. Check out the facebook event here.

UC Serves

UC Serves came to the May Street Orchard and constructed a chicken coup and pen, a winebottle suncatcher wall, cleared brush from the fenceline, planted flowers and pulled weeds. They worked long and hard and had a few laughs. The May Street Orchard is at 2704 May Street and is a foraging orchard. Come harvest strawberries, raspberries and blackberries!

GO Local!

GO Local had a productive day last month at the May Street Orchard. The pen for the chickens was completed, stumps were dug out from the north fenceline, brush was chipped, the hugelkulturs were weeded, planted and mulched, tiny retaining walls were constructed around the fruit trees, because they are planted on a slope. We had a great time and the Orchard looks beautiful. While strawberries are ready for picking now, raspberries will be ready in just a few weeks. We also have pumpkins, watermelon and cantalope planted for late summer harvest, and a few fruit trees bearing pears and apples for harvest this fall.

Another hard working group from Crossroads Church came to the St. James Garden to plant herbs and veggies. Come check out the results!

Back to School Bash

Join us for the Back to School Bash on July 27th from 11am-4pm at 2840 Melrose. Check out the facebook event here!

Foraging Flower Pots & FCC

On Saturday, this hardy group planted flowers donated by FCC to Keep Cincinnati Beautiful. Walnut Hills got 100 flowers, which we planted in the business district flower pots along with patio tomatoes and peppers, with sweet potatoes. The Youth Council has been doing an amazing job keeping these pots watered this spring. These are foraging planters, so if you see a pepper or a tomato that you would like, go ahead and pick it! Just another way to increase access to fresh, locally grown produce in Walnut Hills!

The FCC fans also planted flowers in the tires around the retention pond at the Concord Community Garden. There is a pot and a small garden plot outside the fence at the Concord Garden that is available for foraging by neighbors of the Concord Community Garden.

RED Day

We teamed up with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and Walnut Hills Area Council for Keller Williams' RED Day event. Gardens were prepared for the growing season and the Kroger parking lot and surrounding streets were spruced up.
