Greg Loomis Campership

Greg Loomis, the late visionary director of the Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation, a journalist and community activist was dedicated to developing educational opportunities for our youth. Consequently, Loomis joined forces with the YMCA in an effort to instill values in the youth of Walnut Hills by establishing a Campership Program in 2008.

The YMCA Camp Ernst is the most popular residential summer camp in the Greater Cincinnati area. Steeped in tradition and built on the YMCA values of honesty, caring, responsibility and respect. Camp Ernst hosts campers who enjoy top notch counselors and make friends doing a wide variety of activities including swimming lessons, zip-line, banana boat, 100 ft. waterslide, giant swing, horseback riding, the BLOB, and much more!

The Greg Loomis Campership Program is most grateful to the residents, business owners and institutions of Walnut Hills for their continued support. With their help, The Campership Program has sent over 120 kids to Camp Ernst over the past 8 years.

Applying campers are invited to attend the informational session scheduled for March 17th at 5:30pm at the Bush Community Recreation Center (located at the intersection of Yale Avenue and Kemper). The Campership Team, campers and parents from last year will be there to discuss their experiences and to answer any questions. Or, for more information call Tom Conlan at 513-607-7918.

“I have never been to a place where I was so highly respected and accepted. I loved the outdoor experiences. I got to zip-line, rock climb and swing on the giant swing. Everyone was so friendly . . . t felt more like a family gathering, than a camp experience for!”
