Concord Garden

The community gardens of Walnut Hills are beginning to come back to life! The eternal resurrection of life can be seen in the swelling buds of the trees, the spring bulbs as they peek out from under the warmth and comfort of winter's cover, and the birds as they serenade us with love songs. On March 9, Concord Community Garden had our first volunteer group of the season, UC Fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, spreading wood chips, trimming raspberries and blackberries, and doing general clean up. On Wednesday, Gamble Montessori came and helped us turn the soil in the beds, and plant spring greens and peas. On Sunday March 17, in the tradition of St. Patrick, the committed individual gardeners planted four different kinds of potatoes. On March 29, we welcomed the Civic Garden Center, who turned more beds and started seeds in the Greenhouse. On March 30, we hosted students as part of Clean Up Cincinnati, who completed maintenance on the garden beds, picked up trash around the garden, cleaned out the greenhouse and the tool bin, and planted more lettuce and peas. At the May Street orchard, we were grateful for help from the IU Alumni Association and the UC Fraternity Alpha Pi Omega on March 30th. Weather wise, March went out like a lamb, but our volunteer efforts are a roaring success.
